Puppy Training But How?

Puppy training starts the moment you pick up your puppy to bring it home. It doesn't stop except when you are sleeping. Everything you do with or to your pup is training. It is very important to keep this foremost in your mind.In puppy training everything that your pup does or you allow him to do will
become learned behavior good or bad. Have it worked out in your mind, and written on paper if you have too, what you do and don't want your puppy to do as an adult dog. Then don't let your puppy do that behavior as a puppy. It is much easier to not let a behavior get started then to change or discourage it later on.
To do puppy training properly crate train your puppy by feeding him in his crate. Also have a special chew toy for your pup when you put him in his crate other then feeding times, or give the pup a food treat. These are pleasant experiences that your pup will associate with the crate.Dogs are den animals anyway and this gives them a sense of security, like crawling into a cozy
bed for you. Also DON'T let your pup have free access to the rest of the house. He must always be supervised so that bad behaviors don't have a chance to get started.Part of your puppy training is to direct your pup into doing what you want him
to do. Put a buckle collar on your pup when you give him his first meal in your home, and leave it on. If you feel uncomfortable with the pup wearing a buckle collar while it is in the crate, then remove it.Every time you take your pup out of the crate give him a small food treat as you put the collar on
your pup. Soon he won't mind the collar at all. Don't remove the collar if you dog is scratching at it to try to get it off. If you do, then you will be teaching your pup how to get you to take the collar off, by scratching his neck.Next step in puppy training is to attach a lightweight leash to the collar and let your puppy get use to dragging it around. You must supervise this and maybe even encourage your pup to move with toy or food treat. Then pick up the leash and follow your puppy. Soon you will be able to encourage the pup with praise and reward to follow you. Try for only a few steps at first, especially if your pup is reluctant to walk with the leash. Build on short wins! NEVER pull your pup with the leash to get him to walk with you.
Puppy training regarding toys: It is wise to have toys that are sturdy and strong. Some
pups love to tear things up. Hand sterilized bones, or hard rubber bones or toys, kongs, and balls are good. If you get rope toys that have fringe on the ends your pup may pull at the fringe on your area rugs. If you get stuffed toys they could look just like your stuffed throw pillows to your pup. Also thin rubber or cloth toys are easily destroyed by a serious chewer and could be dangerous if your pup swallows the chewed up parts. Also three or four toys are sufficient, don't over due it or the pup may think that everything on the floor is his.I don't suggest rawhide, pig ears, or hooves for your puppy. Not only can they cause digestive upsets, they can bring out the worst animal in your sweet little pup. Suddenly you see a snarling, growling, and determined pup to keep that chew and not be willing to give it up to you. This is
trouble big time.Develop proper leadership from the start. Treat your pup as the animal that he is and don't put human thought patterns and emotions on him. This doesn't work nor is it fair to the pup. Love your pup and give him the best chance to be his best by giving him strong leadership and realize that he is an animal.
